Licensing city by city
Because the state stays out of plumber licensing, Kansas City, St. Louis, St. Louis County, Springfield and other jurisdictions each run their own license and permit programs. A plumber in good standing on one side of the state may have no standing on the other, so the right question in Missouri is whether the plumber is licensed by the city or county where your house sits.
Missouri water, homes and costs
Kansas City and St. Louis both treat water from the Missouri and Mississippi river systems, softening it at the plant though it stays fairly hard, while Springfield draws from Ozark lakes and springs in limestone country. Brick basements in older city neighborhoods, cold winters and spring storm flooding shape most service calls. Single-part fixes in Missouri cities commonly fall between $150 and $650, and a standard gas tank swap often lands from $1,400 to $3,000. Our replacement guide explains what drives a Missouri quote up or down.
