Who licenses the work
There is no statewide plumber's license in Mississippi. Jackson, Gulfport, Hattiesburg and other cities test and register plumbers themselves and issue the permits for a heater swap, and the Mississippi State Board of Contractors covers builders and remodelers on bigger jobs. Rural counties may have little or no permitting, so confirm local rules before work begins.
Water and weather across Mississippi
The capital treats soft surface water from the Ross Barnett Reservoir and the Pearl River, and its recent pressure problems have sent extra sediment into home tanks. Much of the rest of the state pumps groundwater from sand aquifers that range from soft to moderately hard, sometimes with iron or a sulfur smell. Hurricanes threaten the coast, and occasional ice storms reach the whole state. Labor costs in Mississippi run lower than in most of the country, and Mississippi owners weighing a new unit can start with our replacement page.
